Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, Saturday urged the candidates at all levels to accept the results of the polls in good faith, saying God gives and takes leadership.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote in the governorship and state house of assembly elections at the Gidan-Jao'oje polling station at Gidan-Kara area of Wamakko local government area, he said politics is not a do or die affair and that candidates should accept the outcome of the polls in good faith.
He reminded politicians in the country of the need to put Nigeria's interests above their personal interests.
" Politicians, stakeholders and other Nigerians should have the fear of God always. The candidates at all levels should accept the results of the polls in good faith as God gives and takes leadership," he said.
Wamakko expressed happiness with the high turn out of voters who cast their votes peacefully.
The governor also commended INEC for making adequate arrangements to ensure the success of the polls.
He expressed optimism that APC candidates at all levels will emerge victorious and pledged that APC candidate Aminu Tambuwal would sustain the achievements of his 8-year old administration, if given the mandate.
The Sultan of Sokoto , Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, who cast his vote at the Sultan palace polling station at around 2.00pm, also appealed to the candidates to accept the results in good faith.
The Sultan also called on the losers to accept defeat and join hands with the winners to move Nigeria forward.
Abubakar also cautioned Nigerians against resorting to violence, saying that it will be detrimental to the peace and unity of Nigeria.
In a remark, the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the state, Senator Abdallah Wali, expressed confidence that he would win the election.
Wali also expressed readiness to accept defeat, saying that he was not afraid of losing at the polls.
