A former President of Niger Republic and also ex- Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Malam Mamman Ousmane has said that the outcome of the just concluded general elections in Nigeria was the best thing to happen to West Africa.

A former President of Niger Republic and also ex- Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Malam Mamman Ousmane has said that the outcome of the just concluded general elections in Nigeria was the best thing to happen to West Africa.
Mamman Ousmane, who is also the President of CDS-Rahama, the main opposition party in Niger Republic, made the statement in Katsina during a solidarity visit to the Governor-elect of the state and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari.
The former president asserted that the triumph of credible people like General Muhammadu Buhari and Masari was a victory for the entire West African sub-region as it has restored the confidence of Africa in Nigeria.
He said a contrary result to the polls would have spelt doom not onlyfor Nigeria, but for all the neighbouring countries as their economies rely to a large extent on that of Nigeria.
Ousmane adding that many of the West African countries will go down if Nigeria goes down.
Accompanied by several ranking ministers and lawmakers from his country, he expressed confidence that it would not take long before the incoming leadership in Nigeria puts the country back on the road to prosperity.
The former ECOWAS chairman also urged for more cooperation between his country and Nigeria.
Speaking also, the Katsina State Governor-elect , Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, assured the former Nigerien leader that the incoming All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Nigeria would live by all the electoral promises it has made to Nigerians.
Masari calling on Nigerians not to accept any excuses if the party fails to deliver on the premises it has made.
