Police Restricts Movement on Saturday

In a bid to further ensure safety and security in the forthcoming gubernatorial and State Houses of Assembly elections holding on Saturday, April 11, 2015, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba has ordered a restriction of vehicular movement in all the thirty-six (36) States of the Federation from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, April 11, 2015 only.

This restriction in a release signed by the Force spokesperson,  Emmanuel Ojukwu, excluded vehicles on essential duties such as Fire Service, ambulances and vehicles used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and law enforcement/security agencies.

He said there is no restriction of vehicular movement in the Federal Capital Territory as there is no election taking place there on the said date.

The IGP assured that adequate security logistics and manpower have been strategically deployed to achieve a most conducive electioneering atmosphere.
  In this regard, Policemen for election duty have been properly briefed on their roles as stipulated in the Electoral Act. They are expected to be professional, non-partisan, civil but firm in their approach and relation to the public.

Meanwhile, Abba enjoined citizens to remain vigilant and report all suspicious movements or dealings to appropriate Police authority.
In addition to the deployment of six Deputy Inspector-General of Police to coordinate Police activities in the six geo-political zones, the Inspector-General of Police has deployed Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to supervise the April 11th 2015 gubernatorial elections in the following states listed against their names are Usman Gwary to Abia State,  Olufemi Adenaike to Kwara, Nbu J. Mbu, Ogun, Patrick Dokumor, Kaduna,  Tambari Y. Mohammed, Jigawa, Mohammed Jinjiri Abubakar, Gombe, Ikemefuna Okoye, Oyo, Tunde Ogunsakin, Rivers, Jubril Adeniji, Bauchi, Yerima Irimya, Imo, Baba Adisa Bolanta, Akwa Ibom, Lawal Tanko, Lagos, Ballah Nasarawa, Benue, Musa Abdulsalam Daura, Edo, Adenrele Shinaba, Plateau and Bala Hassan, Sokoto.

Following Commissioners of Police were also deployed for election duties to states indicated as follow:
Anambra State – CP Sam Okaula,
Ekiti State – CP E. J.  Ibine
Enugu State – CP Adamu Mohammed and Osun State – CP Valentine Ntomchukwu.
Also, the IGP has deployed a Commissioner of Police to command each of the Senatorial Zones of the following States; Gombe, Bauchi, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Benue, Edo, Plateau and Sokoto.

For Rivers State, the following Special Units of the Nigeria Police Force have been deployed to address security concerns. These are; 32 Units of Police Mobile Force (PMF), 4 Units of Counter terrorism Units (CTU), 4 Units of Special Protection Units (SPU) and 6 Crack Teams of Detectives from Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) and complements of Intelligence officers.
